Incase anyones wondering, since I know its been asked before: Stock length of a 400ex shock is 15.5 inches, the 450r (least the 04 I grabbed) is 14.75. Might not seem like much, but just by looking at it I can tell its lower.
Will 450 shocks fit 400ex?
Yes they do fit with a small bit of grinding to the body mount weld nut in the upper shock mount. This guy ground down the shock. I personally think working on the weld nut is a better way to go. I have a brand new set of 450R shock that I am going to put on a 400EX in a few weeks I will let you know how it works out.
