Each patient is prepared with a wash of the urethral opening. A local anaesthetic gel is passed into the urethra and this also acts as a lubricant.

A2: At stent is a plastic tube with holes throughout it used to temporarily help urine drain from the kidney down to the bladder. They are typically 20-28cm long and are very soft (see image bleow). Stone pain is due to obstruction of the flow of urine with a buildup of pressure in the ureter and kidney.

Yes. It is normal to have some discomfort for several days after stent removal. This should gradually resolve over 3 to 5 days. The pain should not be as intense as was the original kidney stone.
